The Building Controls Industry Association (�鶹ԭ��) has joined the British Energy Efficiency Federation (BEEF), strengthening its collective voice and helping to increase its influence on energy-efficiency policy. Through its membership, �鶹ԭ�� will continue to highlight the vital role that building energy management systems (BEMS) can play in improving energy performance, reducing consumption and supporting a more efficient built environment.

This membership and collaboration with BEEF builds on �鶹ԭ��’s white paper, Comfort, Efficiency and Health: The Untapped Potential of Building Energy Management Systems, which was launched at the House of Lords last year.

The white paper demonstrates the scale of the opportunity for BEMS to make buildings more energy efficient. Independent analysis found that advanced Class A BEMS deliver average energy and carbon savings of around 30%. The same analysis found that advanced building controls represent the most cost-effective route to improving building performance over a ten-year period, delivering significant energy and carbon savings while generating a strong return on investment.

“The Federation (BEEF) was formed by the then Deputy Prime Minister, the late John Prescott, in 1997. It brings together 16 of the main trade associations concerned with manufacturing, distributing and installing energy-saving equipment and services. We meet quarterly in the offices of the relevant government department—then the ODPM, now DESNZ—and our sessions are attended by selected senior officials from across government.
