As buildings become more connected, the role of building controls is evolving. BMS and BEMS are no longer simply systems for monitoring plant and maintaining comfort. Increasingly, they sit at the heart of how buildings use energy, generate operational data and respond to changing demands.

As BEMS become more important to energy efficiency and operational performance, clients need greater certainty about what is being specified, and contractors need greater clarity about what they are expected to deliver.

Increasingly, buildings are no longer judged simply by how they are designed to perform or whether they achieve a particular compliance standard. Instead, they are judged by how they actually perform throughout their operational life.

March marked the first CEO Network meeting of 2026 and the third since the Network was established. The CEO Network provides a dedicated forum for senior leaders in the BEMS industry to explore the key issues shaping the growth of the sector, their organisations, and their workforce.
